Job Description

This posting is for Mechanical Test personnel in the Quonset Point Test Organization (Dept 972).

  • Mechanical testers perform hydrostatic and other acceptance testing in accordance with various technical manuals, drawings, specifications and procedures
  • Candidates must be able to understand mechanical, piping & structural drawings and system diagrams; the ability to determine technical testing requirements from piping and mechanical drawings is essential
  • Individuals must be able to construct, install, operate & maintain test equipment in a shop environment and on board submarine modules under construction
  • Candidates must have an understanding of and ability to use various hand tools, air & electrically operated pumps and shop equipment
  • Individuals will perform the duties of a Mechanical Safety Technician for tag-out and ensure that work areas are safe

Education/ Experience

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience relevant to the job description required
  • Candidates must be able to understand mechanical, piping & structural drawings and system diagrams; the ability to determine technical testing requirements from piping and mechanical drawings is essential
  • Experience in blueprint reading is required
  • Basic math skills are required

 

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • U.S. Navy submarine experience involving the operation and maintenance of propulsion, environmental & auxiliary systems is highly desirable
  • Previous Military/Navy related experience is preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community College or Apprentice programs

Skills

Applicants must apply for a DOD Security Clearance as a condition of employment. They must be able to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in that position.

  • Must possess strong mathematical, communication, computer and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work all shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative team environment and meet organizational goals
  • Applicant must be able to read and interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, complex manufacturing blueprints and procedures
  • Individuals may be required to possess their own basic hand tools
