Job Description

Welders are required to weld structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation sequence of submarine construction.

  • Welding at Electric Boat is performed on a wide variety of materials, using an ever growing number of welding processes
  • Qualification is required for each process, as welders participate in continuous training in new and traditional welding processes using both conventional and state of the art equipment
  • Assignments will also include use of various pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
  • Oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging duties will be performed as well as verifying weld size using weld gauges
  • Applicants will be required to read and interpret weld symbols, technique sheets and work packages

Education/ Experience

All skill levels: 

  • 3 Years welding experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in manual and/or semi-automatic welding processes is preferred
  • Previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment is desired
  • Previous metal fabrication experience and military shipbuilding experience is preferred
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Military/Navy experience preferred

Skills

  • Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment
  • Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired
  • Must be able to work all shifts, at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Must be able to pass destructive bend weld test and meet minimum visual acceptance requirements
  • Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
