Job Description

Seeking an STO Preventive Maintenance Mechanic for the Quonset Point Test Organization (Dept 972), reporting to the Supervisor of Electrical Testing and the Test Engineer for PM. 


The STO Preventive Maintenance Mechanic performs electrical and mechanical PM tasks on ship's components in accordance with various PM specifications, technical manuals, drawings, and procedures.  The ability to exactly follow technical guidance and procedures provided in the documents is essential.  Candidates must be able to safely operate a variety of electrical and mechanical test equipment and hand tools on board submarine modules under construction.


Tasks to be performed include:

  • Monitoring and documenting PM component location and status changes
  • Validating component information in the PM Database to the actual hardware
  • Assisting in the planning and scheduling of PM activities
  • Reviewing PM records for completeness and accuracy
  • Performing and documenting PM activities (once qualified) per PM work orders

Education/ Experience


  • 1+ year of experience involving the operation and maintenance of electrical systems including motors & transformers is required
  • The ability to read, interpret and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, and complex manufacturing blueprints is required
  • Candidates must demonstrate competency in understanding and following Electric Boat procedures, technical manuals, shipyard procedures, and test documents
  • Basic math skills required

Desired / Preferred Skills:

  • Military/Navy experience is highly desired
  • High School diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical, and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs


Applicants must apply for a DOD Security Clearance as a condition of employment. They must be able to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in that position.

  • Must possess strong mathmatical, communication, computer skills and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work all shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals 
  • Individuals may be required to possess their own basic hand tools
