    Job Description

    The Fire Safety Technician is responsible for:

    • Meeting all requirements of SSP 7.48 pertaining to testing, certifying and maintaining safe atmospheric conditions in tanks and confined spaces in accordance with OSHA CFR29,Part 1915. EnforceOSHA 1915 CFR29, Sub-Part "P" fire requirements for ship building
    • Enforcing established requirements for non-confined hot work permits
    • Supporting the Gracewatch system as a roving tank monitor and/or to monitor GraceWatch system software, computer hardware and communications functions
    • Monitoring workers' status, location, and sensor readings transmitted by the Gracewatch console
    • Being trained in identifying and preventing gross and obvious fire/safety issues to enhance employee safety
    • Supporting the facility fire protection and enforce all requirements of NavSea Section 045, NFPA 1, 13, 25, 101, and local, state & federal fire code regulations

    Education/ Experience

    • This is an Entry level position: 1-3 years of Fire Service (Fire Fighting and/or Ambulatory) is required
    • Must possess a valid State of RI EMT License (Emergency Medical Technician) 
    • Fire department experience with suppression (FF#1) preferred
    • SCBA and firefighting strongly preferred
    • Confined space rescue training preferred
    • Hazardous material training & gas free technician experience preferred
    • High School/GED preferred

     

     

    Skills

    Applicant must be granted a minimum of an interim secret clearance prior to position commencing. They must be able to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in that position

    • Attention to detail and capable of understanding/interpreting a variety of instructions
    • Ability to work under stressful emergency situations
    • Applicants are required to obtain an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) license with a national certification as a condition of employment.
    • Applicants must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures
