  • Job Description

    This position is for operating the Columbia Class, Missile Tube to Keel (MT2K) cutting & welding Robotic System. Candidates will be trained and qualified to use a six axis robotic system in support of the future Missile Compartment construction. Day-to-day functions of a Robotic Operator will be as follows:

    • Basic Robot Programming / Data Collection

    • Robotic Welding, Grinding, Scanning

    • Robotic Cutting (burning)

    • System Dimensional Control

    • System Quality Control

    Candidates must be mechanically and computer inclined and capable of interpreting robotic programs, EB’s work packages, drawings, ER's, and SSP's. Robotic Operators must be willing to work as part of the team between Engineering, Automated Processing, Operations, Planning, Facilities and Safety departments.

     

    Education/ Experience

    • High school diploma/GED preferred
    • Additional preference given for EB Apprentice or Robotic system training
    • Skilled in the use of computers, specifically in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
    • Technical knowledge of Robotic System Operation is preferred
    • Knowledge of the EB operating practices of fabrication and manufacturing
    • Welding experience, UT / RT welding experience is desired
    • Ship fitting / Ship Building Experience preferred 
    • Basic understanding of the NDT acceptance criteria for structural components
    • Experience in lifting and handling
    • Familiarity with Military and NAVSEA codes and specifications preferred

    Skills

    • Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Must be able to read and interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams
    • Must be able to work all shifts / modified work week, at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
    • Must be able to pass a destructive bend weld test, a semi-automatic (spray and pulse) and mechanized robotic (spray & pulse) test and meet minimum visual acceptance requirements
    • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment, meet organizational goals and follow all verbal and written instructions as directed
    • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, must be able to operate impact guns and high torque machinery

    Applicant must be granted a minimum of an interim secret clearance prior to position commencing. They must be able to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in that position.
