Shielding Installation Mechanics are required to cut, fit and install lead and plastic shielding to support submarine construction. This work requires a talented craftsperson with an aptitude to learn and the ability to visualize a job from start to finish. The mechanics will receive job specific training and will receive qualification to perform each process after a demonstration of ability.
Work includes cutting and fitting shielding using carpentry tools such as bandsaws, table saws, planers, jointers, routers, undercut saws, and various pneumatic tools such as handheld chipping hammers, grinders, nail guns and burr tools. Applicants will be required to read and interpret plans and shipyard procedures.
High school diploma/GED preferred. Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs.
Seeking all skill levels. 2+ years of related, carpentry, construction or manufacturing experience is preferred. Military/Navy experience preferred.
